Emergency Response Training for Cold and Heat Stress

Duration
One day (full day).
Format
Classroom plus practical workshops, in English and Urdu, at your site anywhere in Pakistan, or at our head office facility.
Who should attend
Plant operators, technicians, supervisors and HSE staff.
Outcome
Written and practical assessment, a TechLink certificate for each attendee, and an attendance and competency record for your file.

Preventing, recognising and responding to heat illness and cold injury in people who work in extreme temperatures.

You will learn to

  • Recognise heat illness, from heat rash and cramps to heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and cold injury: hypothermia, frostbite and trench foot.
  • Understand the risk factors: new or unacclimatised workers, heavy work, heavy PPE, humidity, wind, wet clothing and poor rest.
  • Apply prevention: water, rest and shade, acclimatisation plans, work and rest cycles, layered dry clothing and warm breaks.
  • Give first aid: cool a heat stroke casualty fast while emergency help is called; move a cold casualty somewhere warm and dry, and never rub frostbitten skin.
  • Run the emergency response: buddy checks, raising the alarm and the site emergency procedure.

Chemical Spillage Control

Duration
One day (full day).
Format
Delivered as a drill, not a lecture: a short classroom element, then timed scenario drills run against your own emergency plan and muster arrangements. English and Urdu.

Plant operators, technicians, supervisors and HSE staff.
Outcome

Handling chemical spills safely, from the first minutes of containment to clean up and reporting.

You will learn to

  • Identify the chemical and its hazards from labels and the safety data sheet.
  • Judge whether a spill is small enough to control locally or needs an emergency response.
  • Select the right PPE, including gloves suited to the chemical and its breakthrough time.
  • Contain and absorb the spill with spill kits, protect drains, neutralise where appropriate, and dispose of waste correctly.
  • Report the incident and restock spill equipment.

Work at Height

Duration
One day (full day).
Format
Classroom plus practical workshops, in English and Urdu, on your site with your own equipment, including a rescue drill.
Who should attend
Plant operators, maintenance crews, contractors, supervisors and safety officers working in refineries, power plants, factories and commercial facilities.
Outcome
Written and practical assessment, a TechLink certificate for each attendee, and an attendance and competency record for your file.

Planning and carrying out work at height so that falls are avoided, prevented or, as a last resort, their consequences minimised.

You will learn to

  • Apply the hierarchy: avoid work at height where possible, prevent falls with safe places of work, then mitigate distance and consequences.
  • Choose collective protection such as guardrails and platforms before personal protection.
  • Inspect ladders, scaffolds and harnesses, and fit and use fall arrest and restraint equipment correctly.
  • Plan a rescue before work starts, and understand suspension trauma.

Severe Weather Conditions

Duration

Keeping people safe on site when storms, lightning, high winds or extreme heat arrive.

You will learn to

  • Monitor forecasts and warnings, and know the triggers for stopping outdoor work.
  • Lightning: stop outdoor work when thunder is heard, shelter in a proper building or a hard-topped vehicle, and wait 30 minutes after the last thunder.
  • High winds and storms: secure loose materials, stop lifting and work at height, and move people to designated shelter.
  • Account for everyone, keep communications working, and deal safely with the aftermath: debris, downed lines and flooding.

Preparing a workplace and its people for earthquakes and floods, and responding safely when they happen.

You will learn to

  • Understand an emergency action plan: chain of command, evacuation routes, assembly points and accounting for everyone, including visitors and people who need help.
  • Earthquake: drop, cover and hold on; after the shaking, check for injuries, gas leaks, electrical and structural damage before re-entry.
  • Flood: act early, move to higher ground before routes are cut off, never walk or drive through floodwater, and isolate power.
  • Practise drills regularly and update the plan from the lessons learned.
